Design Thinking
As the challenges and opportunities facing society grow more complex, an approach known as “design thinking” is playing a greater role in finding meaningful paths forward. Design thinking is an iterative problem-solving process of discovery, ideation, and experimentation that employs design-based techniques to gain insight and yield innovative solutions for virtually any type of problem. This course explores the method of bringing design thinking in a classroom setting and will focus on collaborative development for applying the technique in teaching contexts to improve student learning.

Project Based Learning
Project Based Learning (PBL) focuses as much on the process of instruction and strategies as on the product. Projects engage students and matter to them. Topics are relevant. Depending on their age, students can be guided or become self-guided to formulate their own challenges and questions and procedures to reach goals they deem important to success. Critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, discovery, use of technology and presenting to an audience are essential, self-evolving pieces of PBL projects. This course will show you the step-by-step process for laying the groundwork for implementing PBL in your classroom. You will learn how to promote student engagement through the use of PBL and will get to see PBL in action. You will also have the opportunity to see how teachers have successfully reached beyond the classroom to add to the PBL experience.

Case Study Method
Case method is a powerful student-centered teaching strategy that can impart students with critical thinking, communication and interpersonal skills. Having students work through complex, ambiguous, real world problems engages students with the course material, encouraging them to see it from an action perspective, rather than analyze it from a distance. Case studies are, by their nature, multidisciplinary, and allow the application of theoretical concepts bridging the gap between theory and practice. Through this course participants will learn how to set goals for their lesson, picking a case appropriate for the class, engaging students for deep learning, teaching and learning with cases, managing discussions and leading a case-based classroom.

Maker Ed
In maker-centered learning environments, students imagine, design, and create projects that align the content of learning with hands-on application. Maker education can surface the deep knowledge and resilience in communities, making space in institutions for different ways of knowing and sharing knowledge.  Maker education isn’t about the stuff we can make, it’s about the connectionscommunity  and the meaning we can make, and who holds the power to decide what our futures hold. This course enables teachers to transform their classrooms in to spaces of creativity and wonder.
